The main image is the person stumbling up a hill towards the tree that represents life (Christ). The wave is a symbol of “all the streams flowing as one river,” the church moving together as one. And the fire bird represents Holy Spirit that is relentlessly pursuing humanity with His love.
The faltering man represents you, me, the strung out junkie on the corner, the forgotten orphan, the rich and powerful, the desperate and lowly...all of us. Whether we feel weak or strong, rich or poor, steady or unstable it doesn’t change the simple fact that every one of us desperately needs the life of God offered to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. Whether we see that as true and respond by asking for His Spirit to bring us life, or we walk around with confusion in our heads and our hearts wondering why it’s so hard to understand what this life is about, this fact remains the same. God’s story is about His unbelievable love pursuing His created ones because He wants to. Because of His great love, we are His pursuit.
For those that are not His own yet, feeling tired and lost, aimlessly stumbling seemingly nowhere, His path for them is intentional and deliberate, slowly drawing them closer to His Son, though it may be a difficult road to take. The church (Body of Christ) plays an irreplaceable role in this as well. We partner with God in this act of love. Together, we are the community of love that displays the effects of God’s love; a bright light in a dark room.
To the lost, being pursued might be frightening. To God’s children it is the hope of their world and for all of humanity it is the most beautiful story ever heard.
