This painting is representative of coming to a place where you realize you cannot move forward unless something changes within your own heart. You find yourself either too weak or facing an obstacle that you know is bigger than you can face alone. The person by the water’s edge is illustrating those two predicaments. The upward turned face of the figure is symbolizing the person’s decision to give up on ‘doing it their own way’ and in repentance seek the face of God for help.
